Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
