It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
